In this week’s news, consumers are moving up their back-to-school shopping to avoid higher prices in late summer, Dick’s is making sneakers available for delivery on Uber Eats and Shakira is the latest celebrity with a beauty line, Isima.

'INNOVATION MOVES'

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods has partnered with Uber, giving Uber Eats customers the ability to both order a wide selection of their favorite footwear and other items and at the same time have on-demand delivery. (WWD)

  • Eos, fast-growing body care brand, has partnered with Blue Moon to introduce the latest addition to its multicolored spherical balm collection, inspired by the beer company’s iconic Valencia orange garnish. This is Eos’ first food and beverage collaboration and Blue Moon’s inaugural beauty partnership. (WWD

  • Unilever-owned skin care brand Paula’s Choice has tapped a second athlete as a brand partner. Azzi Fudd, its latest partner, is the 22-year-old guard for the University of Connecticut Huskies. Fudd is widely regarded as one of next year’s most anticipated WNBA drafts. Fudd will promote the brand’s latest launch, the pre-soaked pad version of its longtime hero product, the 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. (Glossy)
  • Spanish jewelry brand Tous is establishing a presence in the U.S. with a unique strategy that includes a tight product assortment and a limited physical footprint. Tous has invested in gifting-focused in-store experiences, refreshed its service training, and run social campaigns centered on personal milestones and relationships, such as graduation and “first jewelry” moments. Tous is also exploring department store partnerships. The company is in early conversations with select department stores and multi-brand retailers. (Glossy

  • Brands like Glossier and Mejuri have ditched the so-called “cash wrap” and are reclaiming that space for displays, more product testing, or places to sit and congregate. Glossier, for instance, intentionally designs its stores in a circular fashion that doesn’t rely on a central checkout or old-school beauty counters. Instead, associates use mobile point-of-sale systems to check out customers whenever and wherever they’re ready. (Modern Retail)

  • Shakira is getting into the celebrity beauty mix with Isima, her range of eight hair care products that debuts on its website this month and Ulta Beauty’s full distribution in July. (WWD)

  • The share of parents beginning their back-to-school shopping in June has nearly doubled from 11% last year to 20% this year, according to a TeacherLists survey. Nearly two-thirds of parents consider this year’s back-to-school shopping to be “financially challenging” or “stressful.” (Retail Dive)
